The Customs and Excise Department works in close co-operation with other government agencies to ensure the high quality of imported and exported goods.

St.Vincent and the Grenadines exports a range of products - fruit, vegetables, ground provisions and manufactured goods - to various markets including the European Union and the United States as well as other Caricom states.

Customs has a key responsibility to ensure the speedy flow of cargo through the major ports, Port Kingstown and Campden Park. Storage space is at a premium so it is vital for consignees to clear their goods promptly. Importers who fail to clear their goods in reasonable time will incur financial penalties as imposed by Customs in conjunction with the Port Authority, which operates the Transit Shed and Queen's Warehouse No 2. Five days of free storage is allowed by the Port Authority before rental charges are imposed. After 14 days, goods will be transferred to Queen's Warehouse No 2 under Customs control and additional fees will be charged, Goods still unclaimed after three months will be sold at public auction.

Before goods are exported, an export declaration must be presented to Customs showing the quantity and descriptions of goods. The necessary  inspection and export certificates must be obtained from the appropriate government agency responsible for ensuring that quality standards are met.
